BP has the worst safety track record of any major oil company operating in the United States.
BP has accounted for 97 percent of the egregious, willful violations handed out by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
OSHA statistics show BP ran up 760 “egregious, willful” safety violations - while the next closest Sunoco and ConocoPhillips each had only eight. Citgo had two and ExxonMobil had one. BP is 760 times more likely than ExxonMobil to commit a major infraction.
BP has admitted to breaking US environmental and safety laws and committing outright fraud. BP paid $373 million in fines in the past five years to avoid prosecution.
